W & D Thomas Mixed Doubles Handicap Tournament held at West Wight Sports Centre on 23rd January 2011

The Annual Tournament attracted an entry of 16 pairs on Sunday including Junior players from the age of 12 to Veterans up to 60 years of age.

The pairs were divided into 4 groups of 4 pairs for initial ’round robin’ stages played on the basis of 3 sets of aggregated points for each match.

The Group winners were:

Group 1 Chris Massey & Kathryn Arnold (RydeKings B.C.) (-8)

Group 2 James Collingwood & Linda Radcliffe (RydeKings B.C.) (Scr)

Group 3 Richard Price & Kathy Mills (Freshwater B.C) (-2)

Group 4 Cleet Holmberg & Kerrie Stott (Vectis B.C.) (-2)

In the knockout Semi-Finals (re-handicapped) -

Chris & Kathryn (-14) defeated Richard & Kathy (+5) : 16-21,21-14,21-16 and

James & Linda (-5) overcame Cleet & Kerrie (Scr) : 21-12,4-21,21-11

to set up the Final (re-handicapped) where -

James & Linda (+3) retained the title that they won in 2010 by beating Chris & Kathryn (-16) : 16-21, 21-7,21-8

The Tournament was organised and run by Newport Badminton Club on behalf of the Isle of Wight County Badminton Association.
